Bio.

Anna Kövecses is a Hungarian born artist living between a small seaside village in Cyprus and a woodside cabin by Lake Balaton, in Hungary. She creates sweet, child-like digital collages using bold, minimalist shapes in a trademark palette. Her sketches and process possess a simplicity and naivety, leaving the final pieces with a charmingly folkloric final aesthetic.

What’s wonderful about Anna’s work is its ability to completely seduce adults and children alike, leading her to work with clients such as Ikea, BBC, The New York Times, Google and Monocle magazine.

"My inspiration comes from living by the Mediterranean Sea, growing up in Eastern Europe, being the mama of three small children, baking fresh bread in the morning, picking oranges and growing veggies in the garden."

Anna's Process

Process: Step 1.

After reading the brief Anna starts by gathering inspiration, flipping through old books, looking at past projects, listening to music, and assembling a mood board for herself to serve as an anchor for her thoughts. In the next step, she uses a simple pencil and a sketch pad to work on the first drafts. Coming up with ideas that are simple and clean but witty and charming at the same time, Anna likes her concepts to tell a story or convey an emotion with as few visual elements as possible. She generally comes up with 2-4 sketches for each illustration and shares these as black & white line sketches.

Process: Step 2.

In the next rounds, Anna switches to vector. She fine tunes the chosen concept based on the feedback she receives. Playing around with the colour palette, smoothing out edges, adjusting the composition, adding or removing patterns and elements to make the artwork either more detailed or more minimalistic, until the final illustration is born.
