Jose Mendez is a Spanish illustrator and artist based between London and Barcelona. His interest in art started at 13, when he started to explore graffiti. So began a journey that took him to Madrid, where he studied graphic design and onto Paris to complete his studies. Since then, he has developed a distinctive and unique style, creating playful worlds full of badass characters, hand drawn typography, psychedelic colours, bold shapes and wavy lines.
Jose's work has been used all over the world and he's participated in street art projects and collaborations with global brands such as Apple, Audi, BBC, Converse, Spotify, and The New York Times among many others. Reaching far beyond just traditional illustration, his work crosses over into product design, physical installations and large scale murals, areas he's keen to explore further. And yes, he IS the guy who created the iconic Chin Chin wine label! East London salutes you, Jose.
